PC vs. Mac

Dec 21

cover-pcvsmac.jpg

You probably have seen the ads, where two guys stand in front of a white background representing the two main systems available to the public, one is a PC the other one a Mac, the PC guy is always wearing nerdy clothes or simply suits, while the Mac guy is wearing regular clothes, poses relaxed in front of the camera and usually ends up making the PC guy look like an incompetent clown.

This ad campaign is as misleading as any political campaign but of course you only hear one side of things, in a world where Mac always wins, of course Apple is paying for these ads and both of the actors are Apple users.

PC
Has a fast paced growth and development, new hardware and software is being released daily, there is a lot of competition between manufacturers and that drives prices down dramatically, PC crashes do occur but remember that software is responsible for 95% of those crashes, the PC by itself has nothing to do with it.

Mac

Owned by Apple, developed by Apple, sold by Apple, advertised by Apple and….uhm….competing with Apple? Well yes, Apple has no direct competition, that is why their systems are so expensive and the repair costs are ridiculous, they are extremely good at graphical interfaces, the icons and menus and overall design of their hardware and software usually is award winning.

Are you ready for this? Mac’s crash as much as PC’s, I know this being both a Mac user and an PC user, I like computers period and PC’s and Macs are both good, what bothers me is Apple misleading the public.

Photo Albums
tri.jpg Apple claims:
“It takes a few clicks to make a photo album on a Mac”

tri.jpg Fact
“It takes more than a few clicks, it also takes iLife which costs $80 and of course you need to install the software and learn how to use it, of course not to mention the fact that you have to pay for the albums you actually print, for PC’s there are services like qoop.com, it’s free and your album costs $12″

line.jpg
Movies
tri.jpg Apple claims:
“Your home made movie with a Mac is comparable to a supermodel, if you use a PC your movie is comparable to a hairy guy wearing a dress”

tri.jpg Fact
“Home editing is not easy regardless of what you use, there are programs out there that help you with editing but if the user lacks the skill to edit professionally, no software or hardware is going to change this fact.”

line.jpg
Fun and work.
tri.jpg Apple claims:
“Macs are for fun, PC’s for work”

tri.jpg Fact
“Not quite, most internet users blog, watch videos, hear music and chat online using PC’s, Macs do this too but is not limited to one system or the other”

line.jpg
Compatibility
tri.jpg Apple claims:
“A new digital camera from Japan works on a Mac only, not a PC”

tri.jpg Fact
“A good friend from South Korea recently brought his digital camera he bought at a Sony store in Tokyo, Japan and I was amazed at the quality of the little gadget, we plugged it to my PC and it worked right away without drivers or special software, USB means Universal Serial Bus for a reason, it also worked on my Mac so Apple’s ad is not only misleading it is also dumb.”

line.jpg
Rebooting
tri.jpg Apple claims:
“Apple Macs do not need to restart”

tri.jpg Fact
“Apple Macs crash as much as any PC, the problem is not the computer, is the user”

line.jpg
Out of the box
tri.jpg Apple claims:
“PC’s do nothing out of the box, Mac’s are ready out of the box.”

tri.jpg Fact
“Both computers have an operating system right out the box, they are easy to connect and they come with fun software to start on, the main focus of each computer lies in the user, if you want to use a PC for fun it is possible if you want to use Mac for work it is also possible.”

Having a Mac, won’t make your movie look better, experience will.

Most consumers have no idea how to make a good home movie like the ones we see in the commercials.

I hope you can find this article useful and realize that a good computer starts with the user, although I will admit that PC’s have made more mistakes than Apple considering that there is more chances of this to happening when there are far more PC’s in the world than Macs.
PC’s = Good, affordable, good looks, wide selection of software to choose from and easy to repair and upgrade. (except Sony computers)
Macs = Good, expensive, awesome looks, great software and user interface, expensive to repair and impossible to build your own.

I feel these commercials are giving PC hardware a bad name when the real culprit to PC problems is Windows. Lets face it those new Macs are running on Intel CPU’s too. Windows is what locks up not my hardware.

Mac users may not do a repair install like Windows users but they do have to reinitialize the Mac OS from time to time. Which is basically the same thing.

I happen to have a digital camera from Japan, and it works just fine with my PC. It did from the moment I connected it.

there are several computer that one can not repair ones self
    without problems,,,
    DELL
    HP
    Compaq
    Sony

one has to get the parts from the manufacture because other motherboards don’t fit in the cases or the case wires don’t fit the plugs on the motherboards

That is why I never buy from any of those companies, I build my own systems.

But I do understand what you are talking about, sometimes it’s impossible to find even the right power supply for a name brand computer.

On the few Apples that I have repaired I always get worried of scratching the nice exterior.

Thank you for reading my blog. B)
