How to install Yahoo Messenger 8

I don’t use messengers, I don’t like them, but I admit they are popular, mostly if you are a teenager or if you don’t have anything better to do other than chat or write a blog. Here are the simple steps to install Yahoo! Messenger, if I missed something just let me know. The default Yahoo! Messenger installation will do the following:

  • Install Yahoo! Messenger
  • Change homepage to Yahoo.com
  • Change default search engine to Yahoo
  • Install Yahoo! Toolbar

If you do not want the extra software, uncheck these:

  • Make Yahoo! my browser’s default search engine
  • Make www.yahoo.com my browser’s home page

Steps to install Yahoo! Messenger 8
First, download the installation program, I found that this version does not install the toolbar or changes your homepage (maybe Yahoo! finally got it right and no longer tries to install software we don’t need)

1. Click the button below and select ‘Run’ when asked.

Install Yahoo! Messenger

You will see the following screen:

Click ‘Next’

Some versions allow you to install the Yahoo! Toolbar and change your homepage to Yahoo.com, the version you are downloading apparently does not, which is good, you really don’t need the toolbar. Click ‘Next’

Always read before you sign, same applies here, read before you continue; if you agree, check ‘Yes, I accept’ and then click ‘Next’

As part of the terms of use, they have the right to track your usage of their product while you run it, read ‘Yahoo Messenger collects and transmits information about your usage’ so don’t say I didn’t warn you. click ‘Next’ to continue or ‘Cancel’ if you are not sure if you want someone tracking your usage.

Again read ‘Yahoo! will collects (will collects?) information about your usage’, if you are ok with this click ‘Next’ or ‘Cancel’

The default folder is fine, unless you have a special folder to install your programs other than ‘Program Files’, click ‘Next’

Until now, nothing has been installed in your system, you can still cancel the operation by clicking ‘Cancel’. If you wish to proceed, click ‘Next’.

And you are done, Yahoo! Messenger has been installed, click ‘Finish‘.

The program will open and now you are ready to use it, note that you will need a Yahoo account, if you don’t have one, click here

My version of Yahoo! Messenger

If I could design my own version of Yahoo! Messenger first I would remove the ads and change some of the buttons, large companies like Yahoo!, MSN and Google rely on advertising, I understand that, but I don’t like ads on programs.

Even though I don’t use Yahoo! Messenger I think it is nice program, some friends use it to discuss business deals, others even to communicate within the same office. What worries me is that I don’t know exactly what kind of information they are collecting from them, and I don’t feel like reading the entire user agreement. Just like everybody else.
