Internet speed
Dec 09
Lately we’ve been noticing that there are people that still use a dial-up connection, most of them don’t even know the alternative (broadband). Prices are very competitive for DSL and if you want a more speed you will probably need cable internet. It all depends on what you do online.
For those of you who want to test your connection speed here is a user friendly interface that will allow you to know your upload and download speed.
Instructions
1.- Click here to access SPEEDTEST.NET
2.- When the animation loads, select a server (preferably, the one marked in yellow or closest to your location)
3.- wait…

By now you should see the results being posted at the bottom of the screen. The download speed is the number of bits per second you receive from the internet and the upload speed is the number of bits per second you send to the internet.
Average Speeds
Dial-Up = 2KB to 4KB per second
Download: 36bps / Upload: 36bps
ISP (AOL, Netzero or Earthlink)
DSL = 75KB to 180KB per second
Download: 1200bps / Upload: 150bps
ISP (SBC Yahoo! or Verizon)
Cable = 350KB to 600KB per second
Download: 4700bps / Upload: 350bps
ISP (Road Runner or Comcast)
Anything faster than this, consider yourself lucky!
