How to install a WCG200-CC router
Jan 15
This is a requested guide on how to access and configure the Linksys WCG200-CC Comcast router, and since I don’t have one, I can’t show you screen shots. But here are a few things you will find useful. This router was discontinued last year I think but it is made by Linksys and the model WCG200 regular is still being sold.
Hardware
The WCG200-CC Router is a mix of router and modem all-in-one solution, it has one antenna, it is black with a big logo on the top side and it has a coaxial port, a USB port and four Ethernet ports, unlike most Linksys routers this one has a ON/OFF switch on the back side next to the antenna.
Installation
- Print this page
- Turn off your computer
- Press the switch to the OFF position (0)
- Connect the power adapter
- Connect the coaxial cable
- Connect your computer through USB or Ethernet. (I recommend Ethernet)
- Turn on the switch
- Wait 30 seconds
- Turn on your computer
- If your computer is configured correctly you should be able to continue this guide, if you have problems after this step, then we are going to have to post a guide for basic network settings
- Open your favorite browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.)
- You should be able to access the internet
To configure your router for wireless access (for PC’s equipped with a wireless adapter)
- Open your favorite browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.)
- Enter this number right where you type an internet address. 192.168.0.1
- Type the username (lowercase) comcast
- Type the password 1234
- Access the wireless settings
- Type a passphrase of your choosing
- Copy the long string of characters that generates below, double check all characters or it will not work.(This is your WEP Key)
- Save your settings
- Unplug the cable (You will get a ‘Disconnected’ message, its normal)
- Access available Wireless Networks on your Control Panel in Windows.
- Click on ‘Customer ID’ which is the default name for your router
- Paste the long string of characters (WEP Key), twice.
- Press OK, wait for a few seconds
- Open your favorite browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.)
- You should be able to access the internet
To reset the router to default settings
Use a pencil or a paper clip and press the little button on the back side of the router for 10 seconds, then release; the front lights will turn red for a second and now your router has been reset.
Default Settings for your router
IP: 192.168.0.1 (not 192.168.1.1)
Username: comcast
Password: 1234
You can use the WEP Key Generator included in the CD, but it is not necessary if you follow my instructions, actually you don’t need the CD for anything other than reading the User Manual, or you can use it as a coaster.

Great post, This is the third or fourth response on google for WCG200-CC. I was wondering if the firmware can be changed to a more standard Linksys product. I can’t see why comcast had to dumb this thing down so far. Most customers are going to call for support or have a tech set it up. There’s no need to make it pretty.

This does work….. You have the correct default informtion, but you have a step missing. When the coaxial cable is plugged into the modem, comcast then feeds it an internet site or captive portal that you will receieve asking if you are a customer or a technician. In here you are supposed to attempt to register your modems MAC with comcast. This did not work for me, and I will have to call comcast. Also I think it would be worth mentioning in your blog about the extremely limited configuration capability of this router. You are unable to define your own WEP key, and can only do so by passphrase. There is no option for reserved dynamic addressing throughout your home network, You cannot change the login name from Comcast, I can’t hide the SSID, and there is much more missing. Being that I work in an IT capacity, I really expect certain options to be available to me, and I do no understand why Linksys would deny its customer base such basic configuration capabilities as not having the DHCP server on for the LAN. This router is definitely made for those who when faced with too many options get overwhelmed. If this sounds like you, this router is perfect.

Is it possible to access the router settings (192.168.0.1) w/o internet access?
I’m trying to setup the wireless settings before the cable company installs tommorrow and I can’t get access to this dang router!

Yes jonathan,
The access to the router is through your local network, if your connections are correct you should be able to access the router settings with or without internet access.
An easy way to know if the problem lies within your browser is by installing a new one, for example if you use Internet Explorer, try installing Firefox or Safari and try again, if the problem persists, check your network settings in control panel.

Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for.
p.s. I hate comcast.

So can u make a passkey without the encrypted long generated one?
Aug 11 at 08:39
Hello bmorris,
Well it would need to be a valid WEP key.
This would be a valid WEP key: 8E33FB2BF1
This would be an invalid WEP key: 8E33XB2RF1
In order to be valid it needs to follow these basic rules
• 64 bit (10 HEX characters)
• 128 bit (26 HEX characters)
For regular users it is a good idea to use the passphrase to key generator.
I hope this answers you question.

Can I use this router to other internet company?
Thanks
Aug 13 at 20:14
Yes. As long as your ISP lets you use it as a modem it works, they will probably ask you to provide the router’s MAC Address.
If you use it solely as a router it works with any internet company as long as you have a separate DSL or Cable Modem.

Thanks so much. It took time warner an hour to get this thing up after multiple transfers because I bought it myself and just wanted to replace having both a modem and router. Your page was the fastest and easiest way I have ever found to set up anything, and the wireless worked perfect immediately. Appreciate it!

I have internet service from COX. When prompted for username and password use the following:
username: leave this blank
password: admin
This worked for me. Hope it helps someone else out

I would like to know if anyone of you have made a firmware update to your wcg200-cc or to know how to make it because I called my IPS (comcast) and they told me that they have no firmware update and linksys have no update for CC model. The problem is that I just bought this modem but when I tried to connect my IP Printer, Voip phone, Sling box, PS3, Wii, I-touch, my PC and my laptop, I couldn’t connect more than 4 of them to the internet the same time because this modem just gives a IP address range for 4 of them. as result cause a lot problems with wireless item trying to obtain an ip address. This is pretty useless in these times that almost everything uses Internet access.

Can I configure a wireless printer (using network cables) on the WCG200-CC? When I follow the instructions given in the printer driver wizard I don’t see the printer on the list of devices available because the router does not recognize it. What do you suggest I do?
Thanks.
