Annoying Windows sounds

Posted on January 29th, 2007

Today I installed a Windows update that required a system restart, to my surprise I heard the Windows welcome theme was back, I disable all sounds on the computers I am working on, they are unnecessary and annoying, I suggest you do the same.
I thought it would be a good idea to post a simple way to remove the sounds, now I know this is not new but believe it or not, some people still don’t know how to do this.

Windows XP Update: SP1 and SP2

Posted on January 2nd, 2007

If you are planning on keeping Windows XP and have not yet updated your system, now is the time. Some people don’t even know that they need to update their operating system, there is something called a ‘Service Pack’ which includes updates for your computer. Aside from regular hot fixes the service packs are absolutely necessary and I recommend you install them as soon as possible.

Do you need to update?
To check whether your system needs to be updated follow these instructions:

Start
  1. Click on ‘start’ (lower left corner of your screen)
  2. Right-click ‘My Computer’ to get a menu
  3. Choose properties.
  4. Check your Windows version, if you don’t see ‘Service Pack’ anywhere, you need to install both.

Pop-ups are usually used for annoying advertising but that is not always the case, some applications use pop-ups to display forms or to show additional information. To allow pop-ups, just disable the pop-up blocker. It is very simple.
