How to burn a data CD

Posted on March 31st, 2008

If you want to learn how to write files on a CD you need to know the basics of it and also check if you have a CD Burner in your computer. The process of writing data on a CD is called burning.

Before you start
To write on a CD you need to have a CD burner, if you are asking yourself “How do I know if I have one”, easy, just check the front of your computer and it should have a CD drive with this logo in it.

Then you need to purchase (CD-R) recordable or (CD-RW) re-writable disks, they sell them individually or on bulks of 25, 50 or 100 at retail stores like Walmart, Circuit City, CompUSA or Best Buy.

Different than floppy disks
The regular way to write data into a disk is simply by dragging the files to its destination. On a CD it works a little bit different, you have to prepare the files that you wish to copy to the disk and then burn them.
Instructions
1. Insert a blank CD in your drive.
2. You will get a message like this (select ***)
3. Drag and drop all the files you are going to burn into that directory

4. When you are done, click Write these files to CD

5. Type the title for your CD and click next.
6.- Wait until the process is completed and click Finish.

Done!

There are easy ways to recover data from a hard drive if it is operating normally, but if it’s defective or if it stops working then it is recommended that you leave the data recovery to the professionals, and we don’t mean your local computer shop.

Here are three alternatives that actually work by disassembling your hard drive and recovering data from the physical discs inside your drive.

  • After say 2 minutes, press Ctrl+C.
  • Type “activity.txt” on the command line to open the log file in notepad (or your default text editor)
